Descending Final Animation

Our final video for the fashion show. Our word is descending and this animation is an abstract illustration of the word. The first 30 seconds ending in the blurred blocks was done by me, and my partner Gary did the last 30 seconds. Our ENDS partner Demerius was tasked with creating a garment made out of neutral colored materials like white, black, clear, and tan to represent the word through a mechanical motion. He will demonstrate the garment in a runway type fashion while our video plays on a projector behind him.

4 levels of Connection: Word, Sound, Visual, Motion

DESCENDING:

Word-Sound:
The word descending means to go or pass from a higher to a lower place; move or comedown: "to descend from the mountaintop." So in our connection between word and sound, we wanted to choose a sound which exaggerates the effect of descension.  Overall the whole piece descends and has many small-high pitched descending sounds going on in the background

Word-Visual:
The whole animation begins in the canopy of a rainforest where an object is followed in its descent to the forest floor. At the ground floor everything stops, the scene flips to an underground view, and the object continues descending.

Word-Motion:
The camera tracks an object as it bounces and falls to the ground, where it continues underground, burrowing deeper and deeper.

Sound-Visual:
There are many kinks and weird sounds in the song, which relate to the abstract  and weird visual aspect of the word. As these kinks and sounds occur, the object will act similarly in the animation.

Sound-Motion:
The overall pitch of the sound gets lower and lower as the camera follows the object lower and lower into the earth.

Visual-Motion:
The visual effects of the animation give the sense of falling, or descending in this instance, and we use the motion of the camera and objects descending to exaggerate the idea of descension.
